Just as we support a local school near Mara Bushtops, we will be helping the next generation of Kuria tribespeople at Serengeti Bushtops. This will include direct assistance and cooperation, ranging from conservation to project funding, plus coordinating educations sponsorships, funded by our guests.
Many take up this opportunity; with a year's education costing less than a hundred euros/dollars, it is the perfect way to give something back to Tanzania in a direct and personal way. It should be stressed, however, that this is entirely a matter of personal choice and no pressure is brought to bear on anyone to participate.
We have identified the Tamkiri Primary school near Mugumu to be the perfect place to start our school project. The Tamkiri Primary school is in need of almost everything from a cemented floor, windows, lights to school materials, computers etc. etc.
We received a very generous donation from visitors from Norway who came to Serengeti Bushtops in 2010. They donated 5000 USD. The school impressed upon us that the most urgent need for the school was water as they had to fetch water from a streem 5 kilometers away. With this priority in mind, we purchased a large water tank and attached gutters on the roof of the school in order to catch the rainwater.
