Tanzania is located in a tropical climate: this means it has bacteria, flora, and fauna that many visitors will not have encountered before. Therefore it makes sense to take a few health precautions when travelling to make sure that your trip goes comfortably and smoothly . Malaria: This is usually top on the list of visitors’ worries. However, if you make sure you are prescribed antimalarial drugs before your visit, the worst that is likely to happen is a few itchy bites. Even these can be prevented by judicious use of sprays or lotions. Your tent at Serengeti Bushtops is protected by electrical anti-mosquito devices and fully netted tent flaps. Once you are in your 'room' you can relax entirely. Vaccinations: The yellow-fever vaccination is no longer officially required when entering Tanzania, yet because the disease is endemic many doctors recommend it as a precaution. You will also need this vaccination if arriving from a country where the disease is prevalent: if visiting from Kenya (eg if you combine both Bushtops venues) you should ensure you arrive fully vaccinated. Other vaccinations that might be considered before you travel include typhoid, hepatitis A and B, meningitis, and tetanus. For more information, contact your doctor. Food and water: When you are with us at Serengeti Bushtops, you can put all your concerns to one side: we ensure the highest hygeine standards. If you travel beyond us and around Tanzania, never drink from taps, or from water bottles with no seal. Steer clear of ice, raw vegetables, and salads when eating at street restaurants. Avoid eating in empty restaurants – the food may have been sitting out for some time – and order your meat well done. On the coast, seafood and fish are usually fresh, but again, make sure everything is well-cooked. If in doubt, err on the side of caution.
