Example Itineraries

One of the questions we are asked most often is how best to fill one's time on safari: what to do and when, so as not to miss out on the action. Here, then, are two sample itineraries to give you a flavour of the opportunities open to you in a Bushtops experience. 

4 days/3 nights Serengeti Bushtops Camp

Day One

You fly in from Arusha to Kogatende Airstrip in the north western Serengeti. Here you will be met at the airstrip by your driver guide and a specially converted 4x4 safari vehicle. Kogatende Airstrip lies directly by the Mara River so you have the perfect setting for your first game drive - from the moment you step out of the plane! The drive takes you to Serengeti Bushtops Camp, where you check in and are escorted to your luxury tent. Lunch is served at the restaurant, with fantastic views of the Serengeti. In the afternoon you can relax in your tent and if you wish you can book a massage, which you can enjoy in the privacy of your tent verandah. In the late afternoon, you will be collected by your driver guide and taken on a game drive. Your guide will be looking for the perfect spot to serve you a sun downer, where you can relax and enjoy the sunset before returning to the camp.Then you relax even further over dinner and your first overnight stay at Serengeti Bushtops Camp.

Day Two

Your butler will gently awaken you with a cup of coffee or tea, which you can enjoy in bed or on your verandah. After a hearty breakfast, you proceed on a full day game drive in the Serengeti National Park. Once a suitable shaded spot has been located, a buffet lunch will be served. You return to Serengeti Bushtops Camp in the early evening, where before diner, you can enjoy a aperitif in the privacy of your own "hot tub". Overnight at Serengeti Bushtops Camp.

Day Three

An early start before sun rise! After coffee or tea in your tent, you proceed on an early morning game drive along the Mara river. This is followed by a bush breakfast before you return back to camp at midday. After lunch, you can have a siesta or book a massage before you proceed on an evening game drive. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Bushtops Camp.

Day Four

You can either "sleep in" or book a walking safari which is accompanied by an armed TANAPA ranger and your private guide. After breakfast you are taken on a final game drive en route to the airstrip for your return flight.

Day One

You will be met at the airstrip in Masai Mara by your driver guide and a specially converted 4x4 safari vehicle. From there you will be able to experience your first game drive en route to Mara Bushtops camp, where you check-in to your luxury tent. Lunch is served at the restaurant, which overlooks a natural salt lick and water hole. In the afternoon you can relax in your tent and if you wish you can book a massage, which you can enjoy in the privacy of your tent verandah. In the late afternoon, you will be collected by your driver guide and taken on a game drive around the conservancy, which surrounds the camp. Your guide will be looking for the perfect spot to serve you a sun downer, where you can relax and enjoy the sunset. After which, you proceed on an exciting night game drive, en route back to the camp. Dinner and overnight at Mara Bushtops camp.

Day Two

Your butler will gently awaken you with a cup of coffee or tea, which you can enjoy in bed or on your verandah. After a hearty breakfast, you proceed on a full day game drive in the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Once a suitable shaded spot has been located, a buffet lunch will be served. You return to Mara Bushtops camp in the early evening, where before diner, you can enjoy a aperitif in the privacy of your own hot tub or you could go for a dip in the inifinity pool. Overnight at Mara Bushtops camp.

Day Three

An early start before sun rise! After coffee or tea in your tent, you proceed on a early morning game drive into the Masai Mara Game Reserve. You return back to the camp for breakfast, after which you can take part in a walking safari accompanied by a KWS Ranger. After lunch, you can have a siesta or visit a Masai Village, before you proceed on an evening game drive within the conservancy which surrounds the camp. Dinner and overnight at Mara Bushtops Camp.

Day Four

You can either sleep in or book a balloon safari in the Mara Game Reserve. We recommend you pre-book the balloon safari. The package includes transportation, the balloon ride and champagne breakfast in the park. After breakfast you are taken on a final game drive en route to the airstrip for your flight across the Mara to Migori where you are met by a Tanzanian driver who will take you across the border to Tarime Airstrip. Please note that you will need the yellow fever certificate to enter Tanzania from Kenya. The visa you can purchase at the border without any problems. There is a short flight from Tarime to Kogatende where you are met by your Tanzanian Ranger. You will proceed on your first game drive en route to camp where your are Welcomed by the Serengeti Bushtops Camp manager.. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Bushtops Camp.

Day Five

As at our sister camp, the day starts with your butler waking you with a welcome cup of coffee or tea, to be sipped as you greet the new day from the comfort of your bed or the panoramic view from your verandah. After another hearty breakfast (we cannot promise to contribute to your diet regime), you proceed on a full day game drive in the Serengeti National Park. Having sought out herds and predators, we find a shady spot for a break, drink and a buffet lunch, then it's back to Serengeti Bushtops camp in the early evening, for an aperitif, dip in the hot tub, dinner and bed. 

Day Six

Early morning game drive with bush breakfast by the Mara River. Return to camp before mid day and enjoy the day in the camp. You can book a massage in the privacy of your tent and have lunch on your terrace in your tent. In the late afternoon proceed on a game drive followed by a sun downer before returning back to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Day Seven

After breakfast you can enjoy a walking safari in the company of an armed TANAPA (Tanzania National Parks) Ranger and your private guide before one final game drive - en route to Kogatende Airstrip. This is where you take a flight to Arusha/Kilimanjaro Airport for your onward journey. One option is to fly to Lake Manyara for a couple of days in the Ngorongoro Conservation area.
