Night Game Drive

As the majestic sun melts over the horizon, and being adjacent to the equator, darkness sets in quickly. Animals not normally seen during the daylight hours now come out in abundance. Species like the african hare, which is often attracted to lights of the 4X4. The eyes of the experienced Masai spotter, together with his night torch and combined with the local knowledge of the area where he grew up, givie him a great advantage in locating the game.

Commonly seen around the conservancy at night are lion, leopard, buffalo, silver backed jackal, hyena and banded mongoose. A distant roar from the night can become a reality. On one occassion we were kept awake at night due to such activity and the next night we were lucky to discover this eminated from a pride of seventeen lions. And on another evening, within meters of the camp, a leopard was seen keenly watching over her two cubs.
